What makes a community? What does a synagogue look like? What was lost during the Holocaust?
This image shows members of the Jewish community of Sighet (today Sighetu Marmaţiei in Romania). These people are shown in front of a wooden synagogue, similar to those found in small towns throughout eastern Europe prior to the Holocaust. Sighet was the home of Elie Wiesel, whose story is relayed in the accompanying postcard.
